留学報告
2022年10月から2年間、岩切勝彦教授からの御推薦により消化管運動機能研究で高名なイギリスのWingate Institute, Upper GI Physiology Unit Royal London Hospital, Queen Mary University of Londonに臨床研究員として留学させていただきました。留学中はProf. Qasim Aziz、Prof. Daniel Sifrim、Dr. Etsuro Yazakiの御指導の下で世界各地（ギリシャ、イスラエル、アルゼンチン、マレーシア、オーストラリア、日本）から留学に訪れた同僚と研究を行うと共に、Upper GI Physiology Unitでは外来患者の問診及び消化管運動機能検査（食道内圧検査、24時間食道インピーダンスpHモニタリング）を700症例以上経験しました。当院も消化管運動機能検査で有名ですが年間の検査件数は150症例ほどであり、ヨーロッパでも有数のHigh Volume Centerで多くの経験を積むことができました。外来患者の問診と検査を始めた当初はかなり緊張しましたが、英語での診療を行う非常に良いトレーニングになったと感じています。
研究成果としては日本で行った3つの研究に関する論文を投稿し掲載されるとともに、留学中に開始し British Society of Gastroenterology 2024にて発表を行った研究に関する論文執筆も完了、投稿を予定しています。また同僚との共同研究でも4つの研究課題が論文化、掲載されました。
今回の研究留学を通して研究者としての基礎が身に付いたと考えております。また様々な文化に触れることで見識が広がると共に、何歳になっても新しいことに挑戦できる自信を持つことができました。今後は留学で得た知識と経験を生かし、疾患の病態を解明し、その成果を社会に還元できるような研究を行っていきたいと考えています。
